Units of Study in the Teaching of Reading and Writing
When planning the year in reading and writing, we aim to create a balanced curriculum. We plan with attention to the elements of process, genre, strategy and print/conventions. We suggest the following lengths of time for each writing unit: process units 1-3 weeks; genre units 3-6 weeks; strategy units 1-4 weeks; and print/conventions units 1-3 weeks.
