Karen McNally has many years of experience teaching grades pre-K through fifth in New York and Massachusetts. Karen works with elementary teachers throughout Westchester County on topics related to both reading and writing instruction. She leads study groups which help develop teachers as literacy leaders in their own school communities. Karen is skilled at listening to the interests and concerns of her teachers and then tailoring information to suit their individual needs. Karen is a frequent presenter at LitLife workshops.
Karen's work this year has focused on the primary grades. Among other work, she is: leading an advanced study group for kindergarten teachers pushing the envelope of their craft; working on cross-district and cross-grade curriculum development for a number of clients; and teaching mini-courses on designing and implementing clear and explicit mini-lesson instruction. Karen is extraordinarily talented at integrating and synthesizing the basic elements of district/school specific teaching practice and curriculum essentials into thoughtful, cohesive curriculum overlays.
Karen's first professional book, The Complete Year in Reading and Writing: Kindergarten, was published by Scholastic in August 2008.
