What is the Family Story Power Project?

The Family Story Power Project is a six week program that brings families together to craft and read stories in a safe and supportive environment. It provides access to colorful and language-rich books, allows families to create and write their own books together, and offers useful tips for cultivating a rich and meaningful reading experience.

This project is so valuable because children need access to books and time to read and write. Sustainable literacy begins in childhood and continues through adulthood and connections to books should be woven into the daily fabric of family life.

The Family Story Power Project was created by LitLife in 2008 and launched at a pilot site in Yonkers, NY with so much success that many families asked for more. In the Spring of 2009 the program extended to nine sites, and the program is continuing to spread throughout the area and beyond.
